We recently downloaded a copy of rapper May-Day’s latest mixtape Stay Made, which you can download here. His mixtape is pretty different to most of the other’s that we’ve been hearing lately. It’s got a more chilled out vibe to it, yet at the same time it’s filled with party jams. May-Day’s music is something that you can definitely listen to all day. Every one of the 16 tracks has a different feel, and the mixtape is a perfect combination of remixes to well known songs and original tracks.

If club bangers are your thing listen to one of our favourites, Gnarly, May-Day’s remix of a sick Kreayshawn track, which you can watch above. If you prefer your music meaningful be sure to check out Beautiful Lies and Great Heights. There are also a lot of really good collabs on the mixtape and we love Look Up, which features white rapper Crichy Crich. And any Wiz Khalifa fans out there should have a listen to May-Day’s remix of Say Yeah.

Stay Made is one of the year’s hottest mixtapes and we definitely recommend you download it! Pretty much all of the tracks on it will definitely stay in our playlists and they’ll probably end up in yours too!

What inspired you to start rapping?

Really hip-hop has been a part of my everyday life since about the age of seven. I started listening to some old school Chronic albums, Eminem, as well as some Tribe Called Quest. When I was about 15 I saw Bun B and UGK live here in Lubbock, TX where I’m from and it really just changed my whole outlook on how hip-hop was really impacting my everyday life without knowing. I just started to pick up on wanting to be a part of the music industry more, and more everyday afterwards.

Who are some of your biggest influences?

My family, God, and so many iconic figures throughout history. I have come across many more people who tend to have a hateful state of mind towards me, than a positive one that’s for sure. I just always try to look at the bright of the situation that there are people out there who do really enjoy the music that I’m creating for them, and so I will keep doing that no matter what. As long as I can change one live while in the process of creating all of this, and getting where I want to go, then that will mean the world to me.

What would you say makes you stand out from other rappers?

Well first of all I don’t touch upon the whole broad subject of money, cars, and clothes. I leave that to the billboard top 40 if mainstream is all you listen to by preference, or you’re just unaware of all the other great underground music. I tend to bend my style in every direction possible on songs so that I can show people that I can stick to one style, but then add a little flavor to it as well. Lately I’ve been in the niche of real story telling type, as well as throwing some uplifting influential lyrics in there. I know there’s people all over the world who just need to hear the answer to a situation from somebody else to know that it’s going to be okay in the end.

Tell us a bit about your previous mixtapes/tracks…

To be honest, I’ve come so far, and changed my style so much that I look at my previous ones with horrible ratings. “Lucid Living” was my fist solely produced mixtape, and it was a ton of heart in it that I will never forget. So many situations that I will never forget that influenced the songs in that tape. Went from damn near being homeless, to losing friends, and all types of things. I had produced and created quite a few songs after that one, that were compiled into bundles such as “Over & Out” which consisted of tribute songs, covers, and mainly remixes. As we move forward to the “Tape From Last Weekend” mixtape that was really when I had a complete change of focus on my music, and as well as my style. I had a lot of maturing come out of that, as well as some losses of friends and such. We literally completed and mastered that mixtape in about 5 days, hence the name. It was four of us together who were so excited with what we were all trying to do that it just motivated us to the fullest extent and we really got some great music out of it. Now, we get to my debut “Stay Made” mixtape. I really feel this was my shot at standing out and showing people my true talent. I’m really proud of myself for the endless days, and nights it took me changing, writing, and mastering it.

Does your latest mixtape have a different sound to your other music?

I have so many unique styles, and different points to get across on this tape as well as letting my fans know so much about me through my music. I did a few indie covers, as well as some west coast stuff.. Really just dropped the points of my life into my mixtape and now I just feel I need the opportunity for everybody to get a chance at hearing it. I know that without a inch of fame people won’t really listen to my two cents anyways, but it’s worth a shot. I’ve been chasing this dream since November of 2009 and hopefully I don’t ever have to stop.
